Portfolio update
Here we go again. Nothing big and fancy, just an update.
I feel sick today, it hit me later in the afternoon so I left work earlier which wasn't so good because I was looking forward to the after work thing and some pizza but oh well.
And I've been feeling like it's Friday all day, annoying.

A better place
So my cousins gave us a three days visit which was nice. The flew back to CA yesterday night, next time it's my turn to visit them. Probably when they have.... wait for it.... SPRING BREAK! yaay, so excited.
Just came back from an Indian restaurant on 6th (?) and 1st, not too far away from the apartment, which is good because it's so damn cold outside. I thought that was over, apparently not. Hoping for better weather this week. But anyway, people had told us about this restaurant so we gave it a try. You could see the place(es) from far away because it's drowned with lights, and it's four exactly the same restaurants next to each other looking exactly the same (I'm so not joking). The four of them had people standing outside trying to get you in, it seriously was hilarious. Turned out to be even worse inside, it was so small and I've never seen so many lights in such small area. Guess it was for the show because the food wasn't that good.
Exciting week at work coming up. Looking forward, new stuff happening. woah
I'm gonna bring some swedish candy for my co-workers, they are gonna go nuts! Because the candy here taste like shit for sure, just like the tap water. So that's something swedes shouldn't take for granted. Candy and tap water!
I feel so bad when I see homeless people, especially inside like McDonalds. They are standing there with all their shit and trying to collect all their coins to afford the cheapest thing. Why do we live in such world!!!!
And here I go eating food in a crazy Indian restaurant with lights shining from above.. But I guess the world can't stop spinning, that are things we are gonna see until the last day.
How dramatic of me.

Hope
I wasn't in the U.S when Obama got elected as president. But I sure was here yesterday for the inauguration (which is a really strange word) and it was pretty cool. It kinda felt like the world stood still around 12 p.m. How often does that happen.
Let's hope this man does something good for this country and the world, it's the last fucking chance. If Obama can't do it, who can ever...!
Was in New Jersey yesterday for Obama party. It was so cool! I didn't even know it's another state. Woaah, all the big, luxury houses. Just like in the movies, the fancy suburbs. Amazing!
It's still cold as f*ck outside, but it seems like it's getting better. It sucks but it really doesn't matter, it's New York. I love it, it's my home!
I love all about it, New York is what you expect it to be but still you have no idea until you see it yourself. Cliché but it actually feels like being in a movie. Who would ever wanna leave that.

So much to learn
I'm mastering the Internet. Surfing around websites, exploring what's really out there, the big ocean, the net. So much going on, so many things. Just kidding, but I found this, goes out to Swedes in general. Read and learn and enjoy!
See ya out there mate!

NYC reflections
Waiting for food so meanwhile let me share some thoughts...
It's impossible getting a taxi
- on new years eve after midnight
- when it's raining
- when it's snowstorm
- if you are more than 4 people sharing
- when everyone else also want a taxi for some reason
Things I really love
- delivery is my new best friend
- laundry service is my savior
- everything is always open all the time
- doormen ftw!
- all the crazy people (they really are crazy)
- you never know what tomorrow is gonna be like
- 90 % of NYC feels like a movie (and no, I wasn't referring to stupid sex and the city shit)
Less good
- the weather is similar to Sweden during winter time (better here tho)
- must remember to add tax to the price when I buy shit and remember to tip! (deadly important)
- slow Internet
- ridiculously expensive to text message
- using checks? (hello, 2009 and Internet banking anyone?)
- subway sucks big time (the few times I actually take it)
- the swedish krona
Foood!

Technology man, technology
Spent like 1 hour today skyping with family and relatives in Sweden. Nice shit, doesn't really feel like I'm that far away when it's so easy to stay in touch. Can't really say I'm missing anything tho.. Only my dearest mom and dad!
The apartment was so hot today because of the sun shining in, I barely had anything on and still it was to much! Had to go out, took a walk in Central Park.

Not coming home
My cousins gave us a visit this week. They're studying in Santa Barbara in CA. It was nice, lotta shopping and shit. When it's warmer there I'll go visit their college life, woho. US for the win!

Yesterday was fucking freezing. Today was bearable. Good thing you never know what the weather is gonna be like. So when it's cold you don't really have to set your mind on freezing fucking winter. Next day can be summer! (I wish)
Mathilda made homemade swedish meatballs, yummy! Kinda having two Christmases, I feel like going ice skating in Rockefeller Center or Central Park.

Go big or go home
Sorry for the poor update, it ain't easy without the Internetz.

Moved in to our new apartment this weeked! Hurray! But it wasn't a dans on roses I can tell. First of all it took like two weeks longer than expected, and that is a bad situation when you don't have anywhere to stay. Second, we had to pay like six month rent a head, just count how much that is if I tell you we pay $3000 a month. Third, the management company that own the building is a disaster, after paying everything they wanted more shit, more papers, more problem.
At this point we could stay at a company apartment which was kick-ass awesome. The lobby had some kind of waterfall, 32 floors and ours was on the 27th! View over Manhattan and Empire State. Awesome I tell you!
So FINALLY when we got the keys to our apartment, when we thought it couldn't be more problems it happened. The apartment wasn't clean, it was weekend and we had to move in. Nothing else to do but go buy cleaning stuff and start cleaning. Cleaning all Saturday and bought beds and stuff to the place on Sunday and then we could move in. And I love it, it's my home. My New York apartment.
Takes 15 minutes for me to walk to work, I pass three starbucks on my way and it's just heaven. After everything we went thru to get it, so worth all of it!
And total random, my neighbour turns out to be a girl from the Karlskrona DM09 class! She knocked on my rooftop door when she saw my facebook pictures and recognized her own place!
Until next time.

Almost homeless
So it's a bit problematic with the apartment. That sucks, because it's really the perfect one. Since we don't have any credit history we need a guarantor or pay a lot of rents in advance and that is waay much money. That's not even our problem, the landlord is hard to get hold of and we really need to get it all done with asap. Or I'll be homeless on Friday, yay.
The internship is going great and I feel more and more comfortable every day. The people are so nice and it's just awesome!
I've met really cool people and that is great. Getting more friends, feeling more home. Basically it's just the apartment left. It's my third week and I never wanna leave New York. Even if I get lost taking the MTA, especially when its evening and I'm all alone. Way out in the ghetto hah.. I'm seriously waiting for something bad to happen. It's a question of when, not if.
My computer is making strange sounds.. that worries me. First thing I'll buy when I get my american credit card is a hard drive, need to back-up my computer.
But oh well, time to sleep. Good night for now.

Holidays over
4 days of relaxing is over. I've had a great Thanksgiving, Black Friday and weekend.
We ordered three large pizzas on Thursday, for six people. It lasted all weekend. I'm probably not eating pizza for a very long time.
We've taken care of the two cutest dogs ever, Honey and Smush. I'm SO getting a dog sometime, when the time is right.
Explored Lower East Side and Little Italy this weekend. I like Little Italy, great restaurants there. Shopping on Black Friday was crazy. Not so much more to say about that.
Was at the movies also, saw Jack & Miri make a porno, not so good but funny.
It's been raining all day, really bad weather so we stayed in all day and watched TV. It's total madness watching TV here... almost 2000 channels, I probably spent most of the time flickering through all of them hah...
Back to work tomorrow, exciting. We also move in to our apartment hopefully tomorrow or Tuesday! Visiting IKEA as well, next weekend.
It's been so great not staying at the hostel all those days. And now I'm back.. at least the guys are there and that's nice. Now I'm gonna eat Ben & Jerry's. Yummy.

I'm thankful for getting my ass all the way to New York.

I'm thankful for doing my internship at the most kick-ass place.
I'm thankful for living my dream.
I'm thankful for finding my dream New York apartment.
I'm thankful for moving from this shit hostel soon.
I'm thankful for being thankful to all those things on my very first Thanksgiving.
Happy Turkey day!

My New York apartment
News! We finally signed the lease for the apartment we want. I'm so happy! It's the perfect apartment, located in East Village, 13th st. Duplex unit on top floor so we have access to the rooftop which is a part of the apartment. It's renovated and we have a washing machine. AND I can walk to work!!
If I thought I was living the dream.. man, THIS is living the dream! I'll post pictures when we get the keys on MONDAY! aaaaaaaaaaaah! Let it be Monday now now now!
Long weekend is coming up, thanksgiving on Thursday. I'm so glad Desmond and Mathilda are finally here.
Alright, pretty tired. It's been a long day.. More to come!

Living the dream
The hostel we're staying at is located in the ghetto, seriously. I hate it, hate going "home" everyday especially when it's late, pretty f*cking scary.

People get robbed, you can hear police cars all the time, gunshots, people yelling and so on. But the weekends are the worst.
Last night was so strange! I woke up around 4 a.m, heard a girl screaming "leave me alone" for like 10 minutes and a car honk the horn, then she stopped screaming and another car came, playing really loud music and then people started to yell and then it sounded like people ran after each other.. Also heard people talking, think someone called the police. The car that played loud music left and then it was quiet for like 5 minutes, I'm SO sure I heard a gunshot and glass breaking and after a few minutes the sound of a police car.
Can't wait to move from here! Hopefully next week!
Yesterday we went up the Empire State Building. That was SO cool. Wow, no words really. I also saw Flat Iron Building! If it's possible I love New York more and more each day, except from this shithole :)
And all the Christmas decorations are coming up and it's so beautiful.
It makes me happy. Pictures.

Pre-thanksgiving
Yesterday I had my very first pre-thanksgiving at the office. The food was SO good and very very nice. Next week is the real thanksgiving and I have no idea what we'll do. People leave town so it will be pretty "empty", that's what I've been told. I think we'll plan to do things where it's usual crowded with people, and of course see the big thanksgiving parade. yay

I've applied for a social security card and got a bank account now! Wooah, and shit. The apartments, I die. Seriously, saw pretty nice apartments and especially one of them. I love it. It's a duplex unit top floor and access to the rooftop! And it's in East Village! I also fell in love with West Village.. Why haven't I seen west village until now! West village is the part where they shoot most movies, like Sex and the City and I can tell, the rest of New York isn't as nice as west village! Not even upper east side.
Alright, the sun is shining today and I'm hitting the city for some shopping or just fika!

Internship
I absolutely love my internship. The office is really nice, people are so kind and it's just pure awesomeness (if that's even a word).
First day was on Monday. It's so great and I love it.
Imagine being happy when you wake up and knowing you'll go to work. Yep, that sure is droga5 for me.
Tomorrow I'll meet up with a broker and look at three apartments in Greenwich Village. I'm so excited about looking at apartments for myself and not just being company when they guys were looking. Btw, they found an apartment they like in Williamsburg!
On friday I'll apply for a social security card and then get a bank account. It's all getting so real! Every day passing by I feel more like this is home. And I'm so becoming a real New Yorker hah.. Everything that we see on TV and movie is so real.. Like buying a coffee to go and a bagel in the mornings, talking on your phone or texting, saying good morning to the doorman before taking the elevator, going to the refrigerator and taking a bottle of water.
I still need to get used to the toilets and I always forget to buy water which is very annoying when you're thirsty and don't have anything to drink!
It's ridiculously expensive to call/texting and I hate all the coins you get back because they are so totally useless. I give mine away to people :)
And so far I've survived taking the subway "home" all the way to this ghetto in the evenings! Alone! Wooah.
Alright, that's all for now and until next time.
